Amy & Leston | Downtown Kansas City Wedding at The Sawyer Room

When Leston proposed to Amy, he sent her on a scavenger hunt all over Kansas City to find clues their cats had hidden (that had kidnapped him for various reasons) in order to save him. Each clue was in a place that had personal significance to them and ranged from mediums such as paper and pencil, to computer file, to QR code. Finally, she wound up in Westport (where he first asked asked to be his girlfriend 5 years earlier), thinking “this is it,” only to get whisked into a car by “kidnappers” (her two best friends) who drove back to the house that they had just bought, where several of their family members and friends were waiting. When she stepped out of the car and took off her blindfold, he was standing in front of the garage door that as it closed, revealed a sign that said “marry me.” He got down on one knee, and she said yes!

I asked Amy if she could tell me when she knew he was “the one.” I love her response, “the moment I knew was during the very start of our relationship, no matter what I was going through he helped me reach a place of calm and peace. It really helped me find my center and develop into someone who was more like the person I’d always wanted to be. Leston would say the moment he realized I was the one was when he discovered how much he enjoyed arguing with me. He once told me that sometimes he picks fights just because he loves to debate with me.”

I got so excited when Amy and Leston told me their wedding would center around a 1920’s art deco theme, with their reception being held at one of Kansas City’s most elegant venues, The Sawyer Room. There was also a flair of Star Trek and video games mixed throughout as well! And I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a single dry eye in the house as Leston danced with his mom to “Tears in Heaven,” performed by the live band, Rick Bacus Trio, who’s bass player was actually Leston’s boy scout leader back in the day.
